Family mediation is an alternative way of resolving issues when a couple decide to either divorce or separate, or where there are issues surrounding the arrangements for children. Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process and can assist clients in reaching their own decisions rather than having a decision being made by a court.
A mediator does not tell clients what to do but guides them through a process which enables them to reach their own solutions. Mediation can assist in restoring communication and trust and achieving an arrangement that is enduring.
Family Mediation can help with the following:
- Arrangments for children
- Financial arrangements upon divorce or separation – including property and pensions.
The role of the Mediator is to be:
- Independent
- Impartial
- Focussed
- Solve problems

When issues are resolved a document known as a Memorandum of Understanding is prepared setting out decisions reached.
The cost of mediation is usually much less than the cost of court proceedings and is also usually much quicker. We also undertake publicly funded mediation.
