I read with some amusement recently a poster on a billboard in which solicitors were advertising that they carried out work on a no win no fee basis for genuine claims. Would a solicitor ever take on a claim other than one which was genuine? You would hope not. However the meaning of the word genuine may mean different things to different people.

For many years solicitors, including myself, were able to offer free legal services to those who had been injured through the fault of others. You would often see advertising such as '100% compensation guaranteed' because it really was as simple as that.

If you have been bitten by a dog, you are less likely to be able to recover compensation than if you had been bitten by Luis Suarez!! Andrew Brown explains that there is little redress for you if you are attacked by someone's dog.
