John qualified in 1986, becoming a partner in a West Yorkshire practice in 1991, and was instrumental in establishing JWP in 2000, since when the firm has quadrupled in size. John is both a member of the Law Society Children Panel and a Criminal Law Accredited Duty Solicitor having amassed vast experience in both Criminal and Child Care Law. John has a particular interest in difficult children cases and has acted for children, parents, grandparents, and relatives. Respected by his peers as an effective and persuasive advocate, John also specialises in the niche area of Licensing Law.
John Wilkinson is a Partner at JWP Solicitors and was instrumental in establishing what has become a highly respected practice in the field of Specialist Criminal Defence and Road Traffic Law. One of the first solicitors to attain the Higher Courts Advocate qualification, John has extensive experience in representing clients facing the most serious charges at the Crown Court and beyond; including dealing with cases at the European Court of Human Rights. Amanda worked as the Head of the Family Law Department at a Private Practice for four years before joining the JWP Solicitors Family Law Department in 2002, becoming a partner in 2006. Amanda is a member of our Child Care law team and is a member of the Law Society Children Panel. Amanda is an advocate of considerable reputation and skill and represents children, parents, and grandparents with a high degree of expertise. Amanda is also an Accredited Specialist of the Solicitors' Family Law Association and is an SFLA member.
Gareth is the Head of the Family Department and joined JWP Solicitors following qualification in 2003, becoming a partner in 2011. Gareth is an Accredited member or Resolution and deals with all areas of family law but is particularly skilful in dealing with complex financial matters following divorce or relationship breakdown between co-habiting couples. Gareth has wide ranging advocacy experience and deals with a variety of complex matters before the County and High Courts.
Michael has a wealth of experience in Child Care law and he joins us from Ridley and Hall where he was a Partner. Prior to joining Ridley and Hall Michael had his own long-running family law practice in Dewsbury which he ran for almost 14 years.
Michaels experience is extensive and he now specialises in child care law, acting for children, parents, grandparents and extended families in complex care proceedings. Michael deals with Residence, Special Guardianship and Contact Matters as well as Adoption Law and he has an excellent reputation for representing the victims of child abuse.
Michael has previously been honoured for his work in Child Care law having being named as one of the top 3 Family Legal Aid lawyers in the country in the prestigious Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year Awards 2011. To be short listed for this major national award is a real feather in the cap for him and we are proud to have Michael join our experienced Child Care team at our Leeds office.
Andrew qualified as a solicitor in 1983 and has vast experience of dealing with personal injury cases, building excellent relationships with clients and professionals alike. Susan qualified in 1986 after training with a large commercial firm in Bradford. Susan joined JWP Solicitors in 2013 to expand the Wills Trusts and Probate Department. Susan has over 25 years experience in providing invaluable advice to individuals, family businesses and charities. She has a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of Will drafting, Trusts, Probate and Administration of Estates, Asset Protection and Succession Planning, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection and elderly client affairs.
Delia qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and has worked exclusively in the West Yorkshire area ever since, joining JWP Solicitors in 2010. Delia is well known and has an excellent reputation as a family solicitor in the Pontefract and West Yorkshire area. Delia has an excellent knowledge of all areas of family law and is a trained Collaborative Lawyer.
Delia enjoys networking and has been an active member of the female only networking group "Bird Board" since 2016. In July 2017 Delia completed her training to become a “top bird” and will launch the Pontefract Bird Board in October 2017. Bird Board is an innovative way for women working in private enterprise to network and use each other’s services. This brings a rich quality of professionals at Delia’s fingertips to provide a complete and bespoke service to all her clients.
Tahira Rahman joined the firm in November 2016. Tahira brings with her a wealth of experience gained having exclusively worked in family law since qualification in 2005. Tahira has worked in Leeds since 2006 and before that in Bradford and Wales.
Tahira has significant experience in dealing with private law children matters acting for parents. Tahira has a keen interest in dealing with cases where there is hostility to a meaningful relationship being maintained between child/ren and the non-primary care giver.
Tahira is a Resolution accredited specialist in Financial Provision, and Emergency Procedures in Financial Remedy cases. Tahira has dealt with complex financial remedy cases including where there are 3rd party rights.
Tahira is committed to dealing with all matters in as non-confrontational and amicable way as possible. In her experience this achieves the best results, reduces hostility, uncertainty and costs. That said, there are cases where court proceedings are inevitable and she has no hesitation in bringing to bear the full weight of the law, her experience and expertise on behalf of her clients.
Tahira speaks Urdu and Punjabi because of which she is a go to solicitor where not only legal expertise is essential but an observation to cultural nuances.
Having qualified in 2007 Joanne has worked exclusively in family law. She has gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in all areas of family and matrimonial matters including divorce, financial matters, child law and children matters. Joanne has experience conducting advocacy before Circuit Judges, District Judges and Magistrates.
Prior to joining JWP Solicitors Lois worked at a large law firm in Leeds where she had responsibility for a team in the Personal Injury department. Lois began her training contact at JWP Solicitors in 2012 and following qualification has now joined the highly regarded Child Care Law department. Lois has gained valuable experience in Public Law proceedings and regularly appears in the Family Proceedings Court and County Court on behalf of parents.
Sarah qualified in 2012 at a specialist Family and Criminal firm in Leeds. She joined JWP in June 2015. She is experienced in both Family and Criminal Law, regularly undertaking her own advocacy including hearings relating to injunctions, residence and contact before District and Circuit Judges. She covers all areas of Family Law with a particular interest in cases involving private children matters.
Sarah also represents clients in the Magistrates and Youth Courts. She is a qualified Police Station Representative, advising clients involved with low level and high risk offences. Sarah can speak 3 other languages (Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi) fluently and often uses these skills as part of her work. She is an approachable and adaptable person who pays particular attention to individual clients needs.
Damien qualified in 2008; and having practiced in London, Derbyshire and Wakefield, joined JWP Solicitors in October 2016. Damien specialises in cases involving Child Care, Adult Care and Mental Health Law. Damien is an Accredited member of the Law Society Children Panel and represents children, parents and grandparents in the Family and High Courts.
Prior to joining JWP Solicitors, Sophie worked as a Paralegal at a large law firm in Leeds where she acted on behalf of global insurance companies within the Motor Recoveries Department. Sophie joined JWP Solicitors in March 2015 as a Trainee Solicitor and gained valuable experience within the different departments. At the culmination of her training, Sophie had found her passion within the Childcare department and qualified into this area in September 2016. Sophie represents both parents and grandparents within Pubic Law Child Care Proceeding in the Family Proceedings Court before Magistrates, District Judges and Circuit Judges.
Chloe qualified in 2015 at a specialist Family law firm in Yorkshire having worked in the field of Family Law since 2009. She joined JWP in January 2018.
She specialises in all aspects of Family Law including injunctions and private law children.
Chloe has been an accredited member of the Law Society’s Family Law Advanced Panel since 2015 with specialisms in domestic abuse and private law children matters.
Claire joined JWP in 2018 after successfully completing her training contract with a respected law firm in Nottinghamshire. During her training contract, Claire gained experience in Wills and Probate, Employment Law, Commercial Law and Conveyancing. Prior to commencing her training contract, Claire spent a year working as a paralegal in the Private Client department of a large law firm in Leeds. Claire specialises in Wills, Probate and the Administration of Estates and Powers of Attorney.
Alexzandra joins us straight from completion of her Law Degree at Northumbria University where she achieved a Masters in Law with first class honours. As well as her outstanding academic ability Alexzandra brings with her some valuable work experience gained throughout her studies including being a volunteer telephone advisor at the Citizen Advice Bureau and Team Leader for Amnesty International. She also worked within the student law office at Northumbria University as part of her degree giving her a real insight into the law in practice. A real people person with a strong desire to provide the best experience and legal knowledge to her clients, Alexzandra fits our ethos well. Alexzandra will spend the next 2 years working within the different departments at JWP Solicitors learning all she can before specialising within her chosen field.
